    Hi Kapil,
Have been trying to install KB4013429 in windows 10 Pro , OS version 1607 for the last three days and after eight unsuccessful tries, I have given up. Very irritating, it reaches 99% installing and would”nt complete the updates undoing changes and of course reverting to roll back the install of KB4013429.
I have tried various troubleshooters including window 10 troubleshooter to no avail, so I decided to turn OFF
windows update. No viruses or malware on the system.

Any help to fix this problem would be much appreciated. Thanks. Nlthcn.

^^ Hi Nlthcn, try installing it via PowerShell, see if it works for you: https://www.kapilarya.com/install-a-specific-windows-update-in-windows-10

After installing the patch KB4022715 for windows 10 version :1607, few machines Network port are not working. I have tried installing the latest driver and few steps mentioned in the other page . In diagnose test the error promoted “windows couldn’t automatically bind the ip protocol stack to the network adapter” .
I had followed the steps mentioned in the below page also , but no luck . Please help us. almost 70 machines got effected on this.

None of the cumulative updates, including KB4089848, has installed since the successful install of KB4053517. Hence, I am stuck on build 16299.125. I have tried all the fixes I can find on the web, short of using the media creation tool to do an in-place repair. Is this now the only option to get to the current build?

^^ Open administrative Command Prompt and type following commands one-by-one followed by Enter key.

    net stop wuauserv
    net stop cryptSvc
    net stop bits
    net stop msiserver
    Ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old
    Ren C:\Windows\System32\catroot2 Catroot2.old
    net start wuauserv
    net start cryptSvc
    net start bits
    net start msiserver

Close Command Prompt and see if Windows Updates works then.

Sir, I have spent a few days on this but I come across your site from post in another discussion forum. Herein from above lies exactly the problem I have now.
“Addresses an issue where an incorrect timing calculation may prematurely delete user profiles on devices subject to the “Delete user profiles older than a specified number of day” group policy.”
I feel there is no way to get this back but you are my only hope if any now. When I try to log in my Windows 10 Pro the screen will bounce from all black to showing the black screen with Task bar ever so briefly and back and forth it goes until I do a Ctrl-Alt-Del and login to another user profile. Of course my login is the oldest and hence why this latest update has wiped my profile apparently. So, is there any way to restore my profile or is it gone forever? I was going to delete my user account and recreate it but a warning shows that I would lose some items that I did not want to take a chance with that. Thank you in advance!

^^ Have you tried uninstalling the update?

  • Eric

Hi Kapil, thanks for posting this!

Like many others, Windows Desktop Search stopped working for me after installing KB4512941 (mock-up of what happens: imgur.com/a/JSfHIPk), and I was hoping that the official fix for this issue in KB4515384 would do the trick. However, Windows Search is now unresponsive, and I am also unable to open the Action Center. Start menu still works, but after I start typing, nothing happens. Likewise, clicking the “Search” icon on the taskbar does nothing.

I restarted Windows Search, made sure the service wasn’t disabled, ensured the indexing was working, tried enabling Cortana and Web Search in Group Policy, and finally ran sfc in safe mode. However, none of these changes seemed to have any effect (I restarted after each one).

For now, I will uninstall the update as you suggested, but I was just wondering if there might be anything else you could recommend?

Thank you for your time and help! I (and likely many others) really appreciate it.

^^ Eric, we’ve very less options when Windows Update breaks something. We can either uninstall the update and block it, which you may have tried already in accordance to https://www.kapilarya.com/fix-desktop-search-not-working-after-installing-kb4512941. However, at the moment, Microsoft marked this issue as resolved. The only thing I can recommend now is to report this via Feedback hub. Others facing this issue will certainly join you and we hope Microsoft will reconsider the issue.

  • Kev

Just confirming I have the same error as Eric with Search, right clicking Taskbar app icons and Action Center being completely unresponsive. We piloted both the Sept 10 and Sept 24 updates… all 54 computers in the pilot run had problems. Microsoft really need to fix this problem and none of the “fixes” work if they put in place before or after the update is installed.

  • Kapil Arya

^^ Thanks Kev for your comment. I highly recommend you to drop your valuable feedback to Microsoft, via Feedback hub app.

I cannot update my computer from windows 10 v1909 (18363.815) to any other version out there, no matter what I do. I have tried installing updates manually from windows update catalog but they do not work. I have installed windows update assistant but it never goes beyond the number 80%. I have tried installing setup diag. It does not work either. If you know about any other ways to install updates, please help me!!
