We all know that there are two architectures in Windows operating systems available to you. First is the 32-bit or x86 architecture and another one is 64-bit or x64 architecture. Users may run into issues, if they run a software written in that architecture which their processor or existing architecture OS doesn’t supports.

Today, in this article, we’re going discuss one such where you can’t install apps due to differences in architecture of your OS. In such cases, you will receive following message when you try to run a program/app:

FIX - This App Can't Run On Your PC In Windows 10

As this message doesn’t mentioned anything related to architectures, users may find it difficult to crack that this is related to whatever OS bit they’re using on their system. Sometimes they decode this message as – software is not supported on their device but might support on different (predecessor or successor) edition of Windows – which is not the case.

These might be possible reasons why you may came around this message:

1. Your Windows installation is 32-bit and you’re trying to install a 64-bit software on it.

2. If the software is supported on x64 based processors only even on a 32-bit OS but your machine has x86 based processor.

Both of these points indicates that software will only work – if your system and processor architecture matches to that of the program.

FIX : This App Can’t Run On Your PC In Windows 10

Here is how you can solve this issue for yourself:

1. Open This PC and click System Properties. Next, in System Properties window, confirm your OS architecture (as highlighted in screenshot below).

2. Go the software vendor site, and look for the same architecture software that matches your OS architecture. Download and install it, you don’t have the issue now.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. Can I convert my 32-bit Windows into 64-bit Windows (or vice versa), directly?

Ans. No. You cannot convert any 32-bit OS into 64-bit directly because there are no such upgrade/downgrade paths. A 64-bit installation uses 64 bit i.e. 8 octets wide address or data buses and registers, while in contrast 32-bit installation uses only 32-bit i.e. 4 octets wide address or data buses and registers.

2. How can I convert my 32-bit Windows into 64-bit Windows (or vice versa), indirectly?

Ans. Backup your files on existing architecture. Make a clean install of your desired architecture based OS. Restore your files and you’re done.

    I have 64-bit Windows,but can,t open Microsoft Store.This is my problem!
When I entered the Microsoft Store, I get this error appears after the selected time:
      Try that Aegean
Something happened on our end. Waiting a bit might help.
The error code is 0x80131500, in case you need it.

^^ If the software is 64-bit and you’re trying to install it on 32-bit machine, please ask the vendor for 32-bit version.

i need to know which application is giving this message as it triggered automatically every few min, how can i know that?

  • Shaz

I don’t think it’s the software vendor issue. Issue is with sloppy Microsoft’s automatic update. The software in question on my laptop was compatible with OS on my machine and has been working all along. Just two days ago I was prompted for an update from Microsoft. I let it install. Now my software does not work and gives that same error that you guys are talking about. I even tried to uninstall that sloppy Microsoft’s update and went back to previous build but my software still does not work and gives same error message. This is 21st century and Microsoft still has not figured out how to install updates correctly on machines. I truly wished there was an alternative that I could go with and ditch Microsoft products forever.

I have been using a very good Dataq I/O unit for several years in a product I sell for process maintenance. After upgrading from Windows 7 or 8 to Windows 10 it still worked fine. Then just recently, as in the comments from Shaz above and others, I downloaded a recent update to 10 and now I get the message, “This app can’t run on this PC”. Now some of my customers are seeing the same thing. I checked some additional older Hewlett Packard hardware and likewise those processes are shut down as well with the latest downloaded “upgrade” (used very loosely). It was running now it does not operate. I can not get the “new drivers” this asks for since nothing is wrong with the old drivers. I likewise tried simply uninstalling the updates and it was not permitted to do so with all of the ones in that update set. Darell

What is it’s a 64 bit processor trying to run a 32 bit piece of software?

  • Kapil Arya

^^ There should be no problem in running such software.

  • William Acquaye

Can i have a link to the software vendor site

  • john kenneth trozo

why I cant install 64 bit windows 10. my laptop specs are
    *Windows 10 pro
    *32 bit. x64 based processor
    *i5
*6 gb ram (2.89 only usable)

  • Kapil Arya

^^ Only clean install of 64-bit edition, you can do. Upgrade won’t work as you’re on 32-bit installation.

  • Jessy

I downloaded 32 bit software and i have 32 bit os but when I tried opening the app it still shows “this app cant run on your pc” what do i do to fix this?

  • Kapil Arya

^^ I suggest you to ask the software vendor for support on this.

  • Matthew H. McKenzie

Probably worth mentioning that 16 bit programs will not run on a 64 bit OS either. The issue with this message is that it is useless to an end user. They *know* it is not working, they need to know *why*.

The workaround for most people and businesses is to keep (sometimes more than one) a Bastion legacy 32 bit XP box for these programs 99% of the time it is kvlotus.exe,

The XP box can be virtual too, such as for XP mode on Windows 7, or a straight virtualbox install.

  • Kapil Arya

^^ Yes, multiple architecture installations helps to overcome these kind of problems.

    Hello Buddy!
Few days earlier all the apps are working perfectly but now some app like IMO, Messenger, are not working and displays ‘this app can’t run on your PC’. i have tried registry repairing, account managing etc but didn’t solve my problem.

  • Kapil Arya

    ^^ Try re-registering the non-working apps: https://www.kapilarya.com/how-to-re-register-a-specific-app-in-windows-10.

Hello. I have just recently been getting the “this app can;t run on PC” message. It started with my Instagram app on my windows 10. I had the app for several months and it was working fine until this morning. When I powered my laptop and tried to run the app, it stopped working. I tried to uninstall and re download the app, but it is not letting me, and the message keeps popping up. I have a 64-bit operating system, x64 based processor. Please help.

  • Kapil Arya

^^ Try to reset the app: https://www.kapilarya.com/how-to-reset-apps-in-windows-10.

I have 64 bit computer and i am installing xammp 64 bit I am still getting same message “this app can’t run on your pc ” i don’t know the issue

  • Kapil Arya

^^ Strange! You may need to contact app developer to get their direct support on this issue.

  • pierre cardin

    This thread is bunk.
~The apps worked FINE in windows 10, then i upgraded to the latest with a fresh install, oh look my app sdont work
This is not a vendor issue

Theyve obviously inserted some sort of application signing – I should decide if tis right ot not
Im on 64 bit windows trying to run both 32 and64 apps.

This is a Microsoft issue, so please stop saying contact the vendor – I have, they gave me the latest version which also doesnt work!

I have reloaded and have about 10 apps that now dont work, not all vendors are to blame unless M$ are pushing them for money!
