When you browse sites that have streamable right protected content, they would require to save media licenses on your device. This is to ensure that the original content is being served and consumed by you and not copied to prevent privacy. Microsoft Edge by default, allows the media licenses to saved on your device.

In this article, we’ll see how to allow or prevent those sites to save protected media licenses on your Windows 10.

Method 1 – Via Microsoft Edge Settings

1. Open Microsoft Edge, click on triple dots ( · · · ) at top right corner, and select Settings.

2. Then click on Privacy & security.

3. Next, under Privacy & security, scroll down and look for Media licenses. Here the Let sites save protected media licenses on my device option is set to On by default. This means sites can save protected media licenses on your Windows 10 machine. You can turn Off this option, if you want to prevent sites from doing so.

The setting should now be in effect. You can also configure this setting via registry, as mentioned in Method 2 below.

Method 2 – Via Registry

Registry Disclaimer: The further steps will involve registry manipulation. Making mistakes while manipulating registry could affect your system adversely. So be careful while editing registry entries and create a System Restore point first.

1. Press W8K + R and put regedit in Run dialog box to open Registry Editor (if you’re not familiar with Registry Editor, then click here). Click OK.

2. In left pane of Registry Editor window, navigate to following registry key:

3. In the right pane of Privacy registry key, double click on EnableEncryptedMediaExtensions named registry DWORD (REG_DWORD) to modify its Value data.

4. Finally, set the Value data as 0 to prevent sites from saving protected media licenses. Or set it to 1 to let sites from saving protected media licenses. Click OK, close Registry Editor and reboot to make changes effective.
