Consider a scenario that you installed an app from Microsoft Store on your Windows 10. Then you try to launched the newly added app, but you can’t. Because when the app is initializing, you received following message:

The specified user does not have a valid profile.

The above shown error message points to some executable in the application folder of the concerned app. This gives us some hint here to solve the issue. So here is a workaround that you can apply to fix it.

Upon doing some research, we came to the conclusion that above error occurs because of lack of permissions in the parent folder. In this case, the parent folder is WindowsApps folder and its location is C:\Program Files\WindowsApps, assuming Windows is installed on C: drive. When you download the app, its installation files are inside the application folder are downloaded under WindowsApps folder. But since the WindowsApps folder lacks permission, the app would not completed install.

To fix this issue, you need to move the application folder outside of the WindowsApps folder and then run the mentioned executable file in the error message. Here are the steps involve here:

1. Press W8K + E to open File Explorer and navigate to C:\Program Files\WindowsApps folder.

2. Take ownership of WindowsApps folder, else you won’t be able to open it.

3. Under WindowsApps folder, move the app folder, for which you’re getting error message. The error message mentions the name of folder, so can get it from there. You can move the folder to Documents, Desktop or any other library. The below screenshot is for representation only, the actual app would be different in your case.

4. Once the folder is located there, you can click on the executable file name mentioned in the error previously and complete app installation and this time error will not appear.
