Fix 1: Using PowerShell
Using PowerShell appropriately can help the users in resetting Task Manager to default without any issue. Hence, the steps for resetting it with PowerShell are stated below-
Step 1- Firstly, Run PowerShell as an administrator.
Step 2- Next, copy and paste the prompt given below and press Enter.
Remove-ItemProperty HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TaskManager -name Preferences
Step 3- Lastly, after the completion of the process, open Task Manager and it should be set to default.
Fix 2: Using Keyboard Shortcut
The second fix is using a keyboard shortcut. Now, the steps for doing the same are provided below-
Step 1- Primarily, click on Start menu and find Task manager.
Step 2- Further, click and hold Ctrl + Shift + Alt keys and select Task Manager. This should reset it to default.
Fix 3: Using Registry Editor
If the above fixes doesn’t work, then the users can also try using the Registry Editor. Follow the steps given below to do the same.
Step 1- At first open, Task Manager. Thereafter, go to the file menu and click Run new task.
Step 2- Next, in the run dialog box, type the following and press Enter.
Regedit
Step 3- Now, copy and paste the path given below and press Enter.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\TaskManager
Step 4- Lastly, right-click the key of Task Manager and select Delete. This will remove the key and reset Task Manager to its default.
