In Windows 11, you can have multiple updates offered automatically. In order to make sure that your system remains safe and secure, It is highly recommended that you keep installing the latest updates. Additionally, along with the security updates, you will be also offered feature updates. Occasionally, you will also receive the version updates once in a year at the moment. Now, in case, if any of the previous updates are pending, the latter offered updates may not be installing sometimes. In this guide, we’ll be sharing you how to delete pending updates in Windows 11.

Some of the users may have question that why the updates are being pending? If Windows discover an issue installing a particular update, the update may be kept pending. In most of cases, corrupt updates files may cause this issue.

How to delete pending updates in Windows 11

Also, there are various factors involved while installing an update. And if any of the factor is such as background service or feature is not responding, updates may be failed with pending state. To continue receiving updates, removing pending updates is a straightforward solution.

How to delete pending updates in Windows 11

You can follow these steps to remove pending updates from your system.

1. Open File Explorer by press Windows+E keys.

2. In the URL or address bar, paste this location (assuming Windows is installed on C:) and press Enter key:

C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download

3. In the Download folder, select all by press Ctrl+A keys and press Delete key.

4. Restart you system and verify Download folder, if content reappears in this folder, repeat step 3.

Once this Download folder is empty, you should not have any pending updates on your Windows 11. You can now continue download new updates.

If you still have issues with Windows Update not installing, it is recommend to run Windows Update troubleshooter from Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters > Windows Update.
