If you want to secure data on your Windows 10, there are many options you can use. The most common feature often recommended to secure data is BitLocker drive encryption. BitLocker can help you to encrypt external, internal drives along with operating system drive. However, BitLocker is not available on basic edition such as Windows 10 Home. If Windows 10 Home users want to encrypt data on their system, they can instead use Device Encryption. The Device Encryption feature is available on all Windows 10 editions. In this article, we’ll see how to check if Device Encryption is supported on your system.
The Device Encryption feature is helpful when you want to allow only authorized people to access your data. No other person can see your encrypted data, if they’re not permitted for. This feature is available only on devices meeting following requirements:
- BIOS must be in UEFI mode.
- TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 2.0+ or PTT (Platform Trust Technology) should be present on system and enabled.
- Secureboot is enabled.
- Core isolation is enabled.
- Windows 10 Version 1703 or later should installed.
- Presence of non-removable (soldered) RAM
- Presence of solid-state storage (SSD) or eMMC.
If your system fulfils most of the above mentioned requirements, you should be able to use Device Encryption feature on your system.
How to check if Device Encryption is supported on your system
To check whether your system supports Device Encryption, either you can verify if above requirements are fulfilled. Alternatively, Windows provide the Device Encryption support information as well. You can check it with these steps:
1. Press 
+ R and type msinfo32 in Run dialog box to open System Information.
2. Under System Information, go to System Summary.
3. In the right pane and scroll down and locate Device Encryption Support entry. If it is supported on your system, you’ll see Meets prerequisites mentioned next to it as shown in below screenshot:
If Device Encryption Support is not supported, you’ll see a reason mentioned about why it is not supported.
So this is how you can identify if your system supports Device Encryption Support.
Kindly note, only if your system supports this feature, then you’ll be able to see its section in Settings app. It can be located at Settings app > Update & Security > Device encryption.
