If you have already signed up for Windows Insider programme, you can follow this guide to start receiving preview builds on your Windows 10. Microsoft regularly releases new preview builds in different channels. You can check this article for latest preview build information. Now in this article, we will see how to fix, if you can’t join Windows Insider on Windows 10.

So recently we came across this problem. Under Windows Insider settings, as soon as we hit Get started button, this message appeared:

Fix Can't join Windows Insider on Windows 10

As you can see in the screenshot above, there is only mention of Something went wrong. At the end, there is an error code 0x0. However, still we don’t have a specific clue about why this error occurred. If you’re also facing same problem, here is how to fix it.

Fix: Can’t join Windows Insider on Windows 10

FIX 1 – Using Settings app

The first thing you should do to fix this is check diagnostic data settings. Only if you’ve allowed telemetry, you should be able to join and receive preview builds from Windows Insider programme.

Try these steps:

1. Right click Start Button or press W8K + X keys and select Settings.

2. In the Settings app, go to Privacy > Diagnostics & feedback.

3. In right pane of Diagnostics & feedback, make sure Optional diagnostic data is turned On. Also ensure that Improve Inking and typing and Tailored experiences options are set to On in this location.

Now retry joining Windows Insider programme, and see if it works.

FIX 2 – Using Registry

Registry Disclaimer: It is recommended to create a System Restore point first, if you’re not familiar with registry manipulation.

1. Run regedit command to open Registry Editor.

2. In Registry Editor window, go to:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost

3. Right click on WindowsSelfHost registry key and select Delete. In the confirmation from appearing next, click Yes.

4. Close Registry Editor and restart your system to make changes effective.

After rebooting your system, you should be able to join Windows Insider programme on your Windows 10, as expected.

^^ What is the exact error you’re getting?

    1. Turned on Optional diagnostic data and also ensured that Improve Inking and typing and Tailored experiences options are set to On in this location.
    2. Tried deleting \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsSelfHost & restarting laptop.
    3. Ran the following commands in command prompt (admin) – DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth and sfc /scannow and restarted laptop.
    None of the above helped.
Still get the same error on Windows Insider Program tab – “Something went wrong. We aren’t able to talk to our service right now. Please try again later”.
